Bangkok, Nov. 18 -- The 29th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting was held at the National Convention Center in Bangkok, Thailand, on the morning of Nov. 18 local time. The Chinese President attended the meeting and delivered an important speech entitled "Building an Asia-Pacific Community with a Shared Future through Unity, Cooperation and Courage".

Upon arrival at the venue, he was warmly greeted by Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha.

In his speech, he pointed out that the Asia-Pacific is where we live and where we live. It is also the source of driving force for global economic growth. Over the past few decades, economic cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region has flourished, creating an "Asia-Pacific miracle" that has attracted worldwide attention. Today, the world is once again at a crossroads of history, and the Asia-Pacific is playing an even more important and prominent role. Under the new circumstances, we should work together to build an Asia-Pacific community with a shared future and make new achievements in Asia-Pacific cooperation.

Some suggestions are put forward.

First, we need to uphold international fairness and justice and build a peaceful and stable Asia-Pacific. The rapid economic growth in the Asia-Pacific over the past few decades has taught us that we should respect each other, work together in solidarity and seek the greatest common denominator. We should adhere to the concept of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security, respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, refrain from interfering in other countries' internal affairs, respect the development path and social system independently chosen by the people of all countries, attach importance to the legitimate security concerns of all countries, and resolve differences and disputes peacefully through dialogue and consultation. We should take an active part in global governance, make the international order more just and equitable, and safeguard peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific and the world at large.

Second, we need to pursue an open and inclusive Asia-Pacific for common prosperity. We should adhere to open regionalism, strengthen macroeconomic policy coordination, build closer regional industrial and supply chains, advance trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, steadily advance regional economic integration, and build a high-standard Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific at an early date. We need to ensure that development is for the people, by the people, and its fruits are shared by the people, so as to promote common prosperity for all people in the Asia-Pacific. China is ready to work with all relevant parties to fully implement the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) with high quality, and continue to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership and the Digital Economy Partnership to promote integrated development in the region. Next year, China will consider hosting the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation to inject new impetus to development and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific and the world at large.

Third, we need to pursue green and low-carbon development and build a clean and beautiful Asia-Pacific. We need to strengthen economic and technological cooperation, accelerate coordinated development of digital green, promote transformation and upgrading of energy, resources, industrial structure and consumption structure, and promote green economic and social development. China will provide support for the implementation of the Bangkok Goals for a green bio-cycle economy and work together to promote ecological and environmental protection and economic development. We welcome Asia-Pacific countries to actively participate in the global development Initiative and strengthen practical cooperation in poverty reduction, food, energy, health and other areas.

Fourth, we need to share our future and build an Asia-Pacific where we help each other. We need to view Asia-Pacific cooperation from a strategic and long-term perspective, uphold APEC's role as the main channel of regional cooperation, and maintain the right direction of Asia-Pacific cooperation. We should uphold the purposes and principles of APEC, deepen the Asia-Pacific partnership featuring mutual trust, inclusiveness and win-win cooperation, carry forward the spirit of a big family, work together and help each other in times of trouble, and move forward toward building an Asia-Pacific community with a shared future.

He stressed that the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was successfully held last month, charting the course and drawing a blueprint for China's development at present and in the future. China is ready to work with all countries for peaceful coexistence and common development on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit. China will continue to open up to the outside world on a wider scale, in wider areas and at a deeper level, follow the Chinese-style path of modernization, build a new system of an open economy at a higher level, and continue to share the opportunities of China's development with the world, especially the Asia-Pacific.

Finally, I pointed out that there is a Thai proverb: "What seed is sown bears fruit." Together, we have sowed the seeds of Putrajaya's vision. We should carefully cultivate them, jointly care for them, and cultivate a flower of prosperity for common development in the Asia-Pacific.

The meeting, chaired by Prayuth, was themed "Openness, Connectivity and balance".
