Help carbon peak, central enterprises in action

To achieve carbon peaking and carbon neutrality is of great significance for China to achieve high-quality development. According to information released by the National Development and Reform Commission, the coal consumption of central power generators has dropped to 298 grams of standard coal per kilowatt-hour, while carbon dioxide emissions per unit of power supply are lower than 550 grams per kilowatt-hour. At the same time, the installed capacity of clean energy by central power generation enterprises accounted for more than 45 percent, and the utilization rate of new energy by power grid enterprises exceeded 95 percent, further enhancing the capacity to absorb and control new energy.

Purifying industrial waste gas, developing offshore wind power resources, launching forest carbon sink observation and remote sensing satellite, breaking the limits of traditional blast furnace process... Now, under the guidance of relevant policies, the vast number of central enterprises have combined their main responsibilities and businesses, and actively contribute to energy conservation, emission reduction, green and low-carbon.

Some plan ahead to improve the construction capacity. In 2022, new energy projects of China Petroleum Engineering and Construction Corporation Limited (CPECC) accounted for more than 10% of new contracts signed, a significant increase from the same period last year. Among them, the Beijing Branch of China Petroleum Engineering and Construction Co., Ltd. has advanced planning and active layout in the field of new energy, and has conducted solid scientific research and technical reserves in the fields of gas and electricity fusion, photovoltaic and wind power generation, CCUS (carbon capture, utilization and storage technology) several years in advance, laying a solid foundation for helping carbon peak.

"On January 18 this year, we successfully won the bidding for the first CCUS project in the domestic printing and dyeing industry -- the EPC Project of Foshan coal-burning Boiler flue Gas carbon dioxide Capture and Comprehensive Utilization of Resources in Guangdong Province, realizing a new breakthrough in the field of comprehensive utilization of carbon dioxide. On December 5, the ammonium bicarbonate unit of the project was put into operation successfully, marking the completion of the whole production process, nearly one month ahead of the date stipulated in the contract. Next, we will make sure that the whole project is successfully put into production!" The company's project executive manager, Zou Hongjie said.

Some study technology to realize "turning waste into treasure". Hydrogen energy is an important force point in the process of achieving peak carbon neutrality. The cost of hydrogen production is the key to the economy of terminal hydrogen use. According to reports, in oil refining, chemical industry, metallurgy, environmental protection, thermal energy and coal deep processing and other industrial production processes produce a large amount of industrial by-product gas, containing more than 10 million tons of hydrogen per year.

To this end, China Sinochemical Southwest Chemical Research and Design Institute Co., Ltd. has actively carried out research on adsorbents and purifiers, purification and purification process, system integration development and detection technology of key impurities (sulfur) in view of the characteristics of different industrial by-product gas, such as large differences in components and complex forms of harmful impurities. Finally, the existing pressure swing adsorption (PSA) hydrogen extraction technology was used to carry out engineering research and development, and reasonable directional impurity removal purification module and purification unit technology was configured to obtain hydrogen used in fuel cell vehicles. "Compared with conventional oil-fired vehicles, hydrogen buses can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 70 kilograms per 100 kilometers traveled. So far, more than 20 sets of our technology have been introduced." Sinochem Southwest Chemical Research and Design Institute Co., LTD. Deputy general manager Wang Jian said.

There are also efforts to reduce the cost of producing and using new energy sources. On December 20, the last typhoon power unit of China General Nuclear Power Corporation's Shanwei Jiazi II 400kw offshore wind power project was connected to the grid, marking the completion and operation of China's largest parity offshore wind farm and the completion and operation of China General Nuclear Power Corporation's 1.4kw offshore wind power project in the shallow water area of Shanwei.

According to reporters, the project is located in the south of Hudong Town, Lufeng City, Guangdong Province, is the highest voltage level of the domestic offshore wind power project. During the construction process, CGN took the lead in using the applied current base anticorrosion technology, which effectively reduced the carbon emissions during the life cycle of the cable, solved the difficult problems of construction and high project cost, and provided a technology demonstration for promoting the green, innovative and affordable development of offshore wind power. According to Zhang Zhiwu, chairman of China General Nuclear Power New Energy Holding Co., LTD., up to now, China General Nuclear Power's domestic offshore wind power reserves exceed 23 million kW, and 2.858 million kW of projects have been completed, with offshore wind power bases in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Shandong and other major coastal provinces. "In the future, CGN will fully leverage the scale, cost and innovation advantages of the industrial alliance to lead the sustainable and healthy development of affordable offshore wind power."

A number of central enterprises said that in the next step, according to the requirements of relevant departments, will continue to actively and steadily promote the carbon peak carbon neutral work, continue to strengthen the organization of implementation, compact the main responsibilities, promote the implementation of the key projects of energy conservation and carbon reduction, form operational, replicable, can be promoted to lead the green low-carbon transformation of the whole society, help high-quality development.
